Ellen Black

A person named Ellen Black is listed with Eliza Black in the 1865 Freedmen’s Bureau records for Fort Monroe. [1] A 4-year-old girl named Ellen Black is also listed as a member of the household of Eliza Black in Elizabeth City County in 1870. [2] Ellen may have been born after Eliza’s escape from Sherwood, or just before.
